Message from the Superintendent

April 2020

Message from the Superintendent:

Certainly, the COVID-19 crisis has had a dramatic impact on all our lives.  Keeping our children and community members safe is the top priority.  Two areas of focus have emerged during this crisis, continuing the learning process and providing nutritious meals to our children in need.  Two rounds of learning packets with traditional paper/pencil activities have been distributed to our students.  Drop boxes, for completed work, have been placed in front of each of our buildings.  During an event such as this we cannot replicate the classroom environment and the support our teachers provide on an individual basis.  However, staff members are using google classroom, google hangout, zoom, face book and email to keep communication lines open with students. I want to commend our professional staff for their creativity, cooperation and dedication to their students.  Our entire staff have been outstanding during this difficult time.

Lunch distribution has taken place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at four sites Whiteoak H.S., Bright Elementary, Carmel store and Belfast store.  To date, over 7,500 lunches have been distributed along with other food items donated by local churches, businesses, PAWS, and individuals.   This has been a huge undertaking and has required the effort and cooperation of many people.  I commend our cafeteria staff for preparing the meals and the many volunteers who help with distribution. Our meal distribution is a tremendous example of service above self and the Wildcat community coming together in support of one another.

We understand there are many questions among our students, parents and staff.  Everything is on hold right now.  We will follow the guidance of our elected officials and health department in determining when we will be able to return to school, conduct activities such as prom, senior banquet, graduation etc.  If we are unable to conduct end of year activities as currently scheduled a revised schedule will be communicated via One Call and our web page.  We are all looking forward to this crisis ending soon and returning to our classrooms and playgrounds.  Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
